IN-STORE GAMING EVENTS
One of the best parts of being an FLGS, or "Friendly Local Game Store", is being a hub of activity and community where folks can come and play games of all kinds together. Here at our store, we have tables permanently set up to allow for folks to casually play games, but also to allow for more formal, scheduled events like workshops, tournaments, and more. Check out our calendar or the list of upcoming events below for scheduling, and keep scrolling for details of the types of events and gaming we host! Additionally, click below for details on some of the policies for different types of in-store gaming that we have in place to ensure everyone has a fun, safe, and fair experience.
Are you looking for more information about our walking tours? Check out our Wander Local page for more info.

Did you give up on visual arts because you felt like (or were told) you were bad at it?
Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed and in need of a simple, relaxing activity?
Are you looking for a way to activate your inner child and just have fun getting messy again?
If you answered "yes" to any or all of these questions, our Finger Painting for Grown-Ups workshop is perfect for you. We'll take you back to basics with this two-hour session that is designed for any painting experience level, but is especially perfect for anyone who is looking for a low-pressure, creative, and relaxing social activity. It's also great for anyone looking to get their hands messy on purpose and experimenting - something that a lot of us grown-ups have a hard time doing!
This workshop will provide participants with:
A creative outlet in an intimate, judgement-free environment that is focused on the process, not the outcome
A guided journey through the sensory experiences and benefits of finger painting
Freeform expression without the limitations and expectations of brushes or other tools
An exploration of finger painting as an exercise in mindfulness and emotional self-regulation
An understanding of some basic colour theory concepts
All materials will be provided, and each workshop participant will be able to take a minimum of one art piece home with them!
As a reminder, this experience is designed for adults - we will be providing kid and family-friendly options for crafting and other workshops at a later date, so please keep an eye on our website and social media channels for details.
FINGER PAINTING FOR GROWN-UPS
NEXT DATE TBD | 6:00pm - 8:00pm | $32 per person
Interested in this workshop but don’t see it scheduled? Send us a quick email so we can keep each other in the loop!
Pokémon Youth Leagues Day
Do your kids want to be the very best, like no one ever was? Are they talking your ear off about Pokémon, or making up their own rules for the card game and pressganging you into playing with them (and somehow you're mysteriously always losing)? Would you like them to have some other kids their age to play and chat about Pokémon with?
If you're nodding your head yes to some or all of these questions, then Sunday Pokémon League at Scalliwags is perfect for you! We're starting off with one Sunday a month, 1pm - 3pm, and it's a day that's just for our younger Pokémon trainers (and their parents - see notes below) from our Pichu and Eevee Divisions (see the league breakdown in the discussion for the event for full details).
We will have fun Pokémon activities, including colouring sheets, activities, and crafts! These are great for younger kids who prefer to collect cards rather than play the official rules.
We'll also have open Pokémon TCG play for our Eevee Division players (casual games only - this is not a tournament) and supervised trades. Kids are encouraged to bring their cards with them, even if they just want to talk about them and discuss the finer points of which version of Pikachu is the coolest
Another great part of these League Days are learn to play sessions - we will teach you the official Pokémon Trading Card Game rules with a handy teaching deck and playmats that are designed for easy learning. The session itself takes about 20-30 minutes.
Everybody who attends the event will get special official Pokémon goodies because we are an officially-sanctioned Pokémon League location. We're so excited to finally be able to host an active league, and hope that you'll join us!
The cost to participate is $5 per child. Pichu League trainers (age 4-8) must have a grown up stay with them. Eevee League Players (age 9-13) can be dropped off and picked up, or parents are welcome to stay, especially if they would like to play or learn to play the game themselves
If you have any questions at all about the event, please let us know! If you are not already registered for the Play Pokémon program, you can save some time and register in advance at www.pokemon.com - we can also help with this at the event.
Friday Night TCG
Friday nights are for trading card games! For 2023, we’ve started to include Pokémon into our Friday Night Gaming line up. We will also continue to offer 16 seats for Friday Night Magic Commander (MTG) while also incorporating 8 seats for casual Pokémon play.
Players will need to register at the counter when they come in to play. Entry fee is the purchase of a sealed product (most commonly booster packs).
While there are no health mandates anymore, we would like to remind players that if they are feeling unwell either don't attend an event or wear a mask please.
Board Game Night
Bring a game, bring a friend, or just bring yourself, to our Board Game Night every Thursday from 6:00-9:00pm. Feel free to access our demo library to try something new to you and always keep an eye peeled for us to demo something new in the store!
RPG Wednesday
This is our weekly Tabletop Roleplaying Game Night event. Players should already have a sense of the tables they are playing at but new players are always welcome to join in and new Game Masters (GMs) are encouraged to reach out to the store about running a table.
There are no fees for RPG Night. Walks in are welcome but we can never ensure the available space in the store.
If you feel sick let your DM know that you either won't be attending or that you will be wearing a mask to ensure community safety

This is a great way to play Chess, meet new people and other enthusiasts, or come on in and learn the sweet science of Chess.
